About the role

  • The Project Officer is responsible for co-planning and implementing the Cambodian Marine Mammal Bycatch and Stranding Net; bycatch mitigation pilot studies; contributing to the marine mammal Bycatch Mitigation Action Plan; and other projects as required, funding dependent.
  • This role works closely with fishers and fishing community members to collect and verify data to contribute to marine mammal conservation.
  • Additional responsibilities include liaising with key stakeholders and partner organisations, and supporting the preparation of activity and financial reports.
  • DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement further phases of the ongoing Cambodian Marine Mammal Bycatch and Stranding Net.
  • Continue implementation of ongoing bycatch mitigation trials.
  • Conduct social science surveys, such as questionnaires.
  • Report writing and dissemination of findings.
  • Data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Contribute to publishing peer-reviewed research.
  • Project administration and quarterly project financials.
  • Liaise with community members and government officials.
  • Conduct outreach and training events for fishers and fishing community members.
  • Support existing and new stakeholder relationships.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members and provide ongoing training and support to the team.
  • Supervise Khmer and international thesis students.
  • Uphold organisation values.
  • Other responsibilities as identified.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about community engagement and wildlife conservation and have experience in both.
  • They will be open to learning new skills and taking on new challenges, working well in a team, as well as independently.
  • The ideal candidate will be hard-working and care about making a difference for Cambodia’s marine mammals and local people.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE: General & Technical Skills Fluency in English and Khmer (spoken and written) Field, data analysis and strong writing skills Computer literacy Ability to travel for field Driver’s license Knowledge of marine science and conservation (desired but not essential) Have published peer-reviewed research (desired but not essential) Soft Skills Strong organisational, time-management skills.
